The 2018 Commemorative Pin is adapted from the magnificent painting La Bamba by Mexican painter Jesús Helguera (May 28, 1910 – December 5, 1971). Helguera’s images are as well known in Mexico as Norman Rockwell’s are in America. His paintings showed an idealized Mexico, and it was his romantic approach that gave his paintings the heroic impact that eventually made him famous. (read more about the artist's history)
The original image for the Fiesta Poster was found at Sullivan-Goss, and OSD board member Debbie Oquist assisted with the design, while Steve Lipman at Pincrafters assisted with the Pin design.

Celebrating 93 years of tradition - La Presidente Rhonda Ledson Henderson - Gathering for Fiesta, Nicholas S. Firfires (1919 – 1990) , Oil on canvas – Courtesy John & Lauren Mullins – Designed by Jon Patrick Hyde. This year’s Fiesta theme of “ Unity through Community” is in honor of the late Father Virgil Cordano, O.F.M. (1918 – 2008) – May his spirit and the love he shared for our community be remembered always.
“Roses are such important elements of our Fiestas,” La Presidente Henderson said, “as ladies both young and old frequently add a rose to their hair to round out their Fiesta outfits. And to me, the rose is also a special way to honor our Fiesta Flower Girls, the official ambassadors of Old Spanish Days Fiesta, a fabulous program I had the privilege of chairing for many years.”
